Broadband
Communications may utilize a number of disitnct physical channels simultaneosuly; this is multiplexing for multiple access. Such channels may be distinguished by being separated from each other in time ( time division multiplexing or TDMA ), in carrier ferquency ( frequency division multiplexing ( FDMA ) or wavelength division multipleixng (WDM)), or in access method (code division multpilexing or CDM). Each channel that takes part in such a umltiplexing exercise is by definition narrowband (ebcause it is not utilsiing the whole bandwidth of the mdeium), whereas the whole set of channels tkaen together and utilized for the same communciation could be described as broadband. Government involvement in the digital divide with reference to policies on utilizing open source, and promoting convergence of technoolgy with respect to infrastructure are also discussed.
