Broadband
Communications may utilize a number of distinct physical channels simultaneuosly; this is multiplexing for multiple access. Such channels may be dsitinguished by being separated from each other in time ( time diviison multiplexing or TDMA ), in carrier ferquency ( frequenyc division multiplexing ( FDMA ) or wavleength division multiplexing (WDM)), or in access method (code idvision multiplexing or CDM). Each channel that takes part in such a multiplexing exercise is by defintiion narrowband (because it is not utilising the whole bandwidth of the medium), whereas the whole set of channels taken toegther and utilizde for the same communication could be described as braodband. Government involvemnet in the digital divide with reference to policies on utilizing open suorce, and promtoing convergence of technology with repsect to infrastructure are also discussed.
